A New Orleans man is accused of shooting a man who tried to prevent him from kidnapping a woman. And after he fled, cops say he raped a couple at gunpoint.
Euric Cain, 21, is accused of a vicious crime spree that began on November 20, when he grabbed a woman and dragged her toward an SUV. Peter Gold, a 25-year-old medical student at Tulane University, saw the kidnapping and interfered. That's when Cain allegedly pointed his gun at Gold, demanded money, and then shot him in the stomach. The entire incident was caught on surveillance video and reported by the Times-Picayune.
But Cain apparently wasn't finished. As Gold writhed in pain on the ground, Cain pointed his gun at the student's head. Apparently, he pulled the trigger but the gun miraculously jammed. And then Cain fled.
As Gold was in critical but stable condition at the hospital, Cain continued his reign of carnage, according to the Times-Picayune.
The next day, Cain allegedly jumped into a couple's car at 3 a.m., raped the woman and then forced the man to give him oral sex as he pointed his gun at their heads.
Afterward, police say Cain kicked the couple out of the vehicle and sped off with their valuables.
WVUE reported that police arrested Cain on December 9 and booked for two counts of first-degree rape, two counts of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery and two counts of carjacking for the incident involving the couple. His bond was set at $1 million.
Cain was also booked on attempted first-degree murder charges for shooting Gold once they linked him to that crime. For this, his bond was set at $6 million.
"The actions that we've seen, the actions that you've seen, show that he deserves to be in prison, and we're working very hard to tie up the loose ends to present a very good case to the district attorney to prosecute him for both of those cases," New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison told WVUE.
Cain has pled not guilty.
