The contentious relationship between Fox News chief Roger Ailes and presidential candidate Donald Trump continues. After forgiving Trump for his initial attack on Fox News host Megyn Kelly, Ailes is now demanding that Trump issue an apology for his most recent remarks. Trump voiced his disapproval of Kelly via Twitter earlier this week, re-igniting a feud that began after Kelly hosted the first GOP primary debate.
One of the most controversial elements of Trump’s tirade was his retweeting of a follower who referred to Kelly as a “bimbo.” During his initial post-debate attack, Trump was criticized for doing the same thing. This most recent Twitter rant was evidence that Trump’s issues with Kelly were not truly resolved.
Trump’s issues with Ailes, apparently, are not resolved either. In his recent Hollywood Reporter profile, Trump said his relationship with Ailes is “all fine now.” He even referred to Ailes as a friend of his. Yet Ailes himself sees things differently, as he issued a statement calling for Trump to apologize. “Megyn Kelly represents the very best of American journalism and all of us at Fox News Channel reject the crude and irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise,” Ailes said, according to Opposing Views. “I could not be more proud of Megyn for her professionalism and class in the face of all of Mr. Trump’s verbal assaults. Donald Trump rarely apologizes, although in this case, he should.”
Trump, as usual, refuses to acknowledge that request to apologize. Instead, he’s standing firm in his opposition to Kelly. “Hopefully in the future I will be proven wrong and she will be able to elevate her standards to a level of professionalism that a network such as Fox deserves,” Trump said of Kelly.
Trump’s initial outrage began after Kelly asked him a question about his treatment of women during the Fox News primary debate.
