Mother Pens Note To School About Son's Assignment (Photo)

A California mother was angered by a school assignment sent home with her son and the note she wrote to the school has gone viral.

Tara Cali of Bakersfield was surprised to see that her son's 7th grade History workbook had an assignment titled "Islamic Beliefs and Practices."

In the assignment is a QR code for students to scan with a smartphone or tablet which links to a YouTube video of "a call to prayer at the Blue Mosque in Istanbul."

Cali was angry that the school was teaching about Islam and wrote the school a note saying that her son would not be completing the assignment.

"My son WILL not be a part of this in any sort of way," she wrote in the note, which she shared to Facebook. "This is bad teaching material. He will NOT partake. If you have a problem with it, call our lawyer."

Cali also wrote down a list of Bible passages and questioned why they are not teaching Christian practices.

After Cali shared a photo of the note to a local news station's Facebook page, the photo went viral.

Thousands of Facebook users commented with differing opinions.

"Part of world history is learning that there are many different types of people, cultures, and religions besides those you encounter or practice on a daily basis," one user commented. "This has been part of school curriculum for the past 15 years; I remember doing assignments like this in school myself."

"This should be in a Religion class , NOT a History class!!" another user wrote. "That's how they hood wink us into brainwashing our kids!!!"
