Connecticut Police Probe Possible Human Remains For Tie To Missing Couple

Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin

Police in Connecticut on Oct. 30 investigated possible human remains found near a vacant house to determine if they are from a couple who disappeared in August.

Connecticut State Police have been investigating the case of Jeffrey and Jeanette Navin of Easton, who were last seen on Aug. 9, for two months now. In September, law enforcement arrested their adult son, Kyle, on a federal gun law violation and identified him as a person of interest in the disappearance case.

A homeowner in Westport on Oct. 29 discovered two bags containing what police believe may be human remains. State police spokesman Kerry Grant said on Oct. 30 investigators are trying to determine if they are linked to the Navins, who lived near the area where the remains were found.

Kyle Navin, 27, is due in U.S. District Court in Bridgeport on Oct. 30 for a previously scheduled hearing on whether he will remain in custody ahead of trial on charges of breaking a U.S. law prohibiting users of illegal drugs from owning firearms. The charges came after a police search of his home that allegedly turned up guns and narcotics.

He has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors have released a series of text messages between Navin and his father on the day the couple was last seen, in which the father asked Navin if he had harmed his mother.

The missing couple's 2003 Dodge pickup had a bullet hole and traces of blood in it when it was found on Aug. 9 near a waste disposal business owned by Jeffrey Navin, prosecutors said.

Police said the couple had more than $2.2 million in debt at the time they vanished.
