Babysitter Goes In To Check On Baby, Makes Troubling Discovery (Video)

Ashley Stanley was babysitting in Houston on Monday when she heard unusual noises coming from a camera located above the baby’s crib. At first she was confused, but her confusion quickly turned to fear when she realized what it was.

As she was changing the baby’s diaper, she realized that the noise was actually a man narrating the scene in the baby’s room. Stanley said, “I kept hearing this strange noise from over there by the crib. They kept telling me that it’s a cute baby and, ‘Wow, that is a poopy diaper’.”

Initially she thought that the parents were playing a friendly prank on her, but it soon dawned on her that this was not a joke. She said, “What pervert has been watching and not said anything? That is the kind of person that I’m kind of afraid of. Like who has been watching silently.”

The baby’s parents use the camera to monitor their child through a smart phone application. The camera shows them the baby’s room and can also be turned to look into the hallway.

The family is not sure if the camera was accidentally open to public access or if the man hacked the camera. However, the incident scared Stanley enough that she unplugged the device. Foscam, the company that makes the camera, describes in detail how to protect the camera feed with passwords and other safety features.

Stanley was left shaken, saying, “I was kinda really freaked out like maybe someone hacked into the camera, he said something else like, ‘You should probably password protect your camera’.”

Defense attorney Kent Schaffer said that since the home wireless internet network was password protected, hacking it would be a federal crime. He said, “It's unlawful interception of electronic communication. State and federal governments have criminal sanctions for that."
