Outraged Father Takes Matters Into Own Hands; Pictures Quickly Go Viral (Photos)

A North Carolina couple took to Facebook to express their outrage after the district attorney dropped charges against a man accused of beating their 2-year-old daughter. Their post went viral and now the man is facing felony charges.

Craig and Leigh Hollars trusted their neighbor and friend to babysit their 2-year-old girl in 2013, Fox 8 reported. What they didn’t know was that the neighbor’s husband had an extensive criminal record.

Then one day, Leigh received a phone from a police officer. She was asked about bruises on her daughter's face.

“I get to Baptist Hospital and they tell me that they think that she’s been beaten,” Leigh told Fox 8. “I walk around the corner and my daughter is black and blue. From head to toe.”

An investigation was launched and the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said they had enough evidence and witnesses to proceed with charges in May 2014.

The babysitter’s husband, Kyle Christopher Fox, was accused of beating the infant child in the bathroom of a Walkertown Hardee’s restaurant. He was charged with a misdemeanor and the case was repeatedly continued for about a year.

On Wednesday, the Hollars appeared in court and were told that the charges against Fox were dropped because the witnesses were not present to testify.

“I’m supposed to let the court system handle it and the court system failed,” Craig said. “I could have done a better job myself. And I promise you he’d never have hurt another child again.”

The Hollars decided to voice their frustrations on social media. They posted pictures of their child's injuries on Facebook and told their story. The post was shared more than 60,000 times in 24 hours and it got the attention of the district attorney.

The Forsyth County District Attorney announced Thursday that charges were being re-filed against Fox. He is now facing a felony charge.

“Kyle C. Fox was re-charged today with one count of misdemeanor child abuse, as well as the additional charges of felony assault by strangulation and misdemeanor assault on a child under the age of 12,” the district attorney wrote in a statement.

Fox, who has an extensive criminal history with charges of assault, drug possession, reckless driving, larceny, carrying a concealed weapon, etc., has yet to turn himself in.

“I just don’t want anyone else to have to go through this and I know on a daily basis it happens,” Leigh said. “People told us, ‘Oh, your daughter won’t remember any of this. She’s only 2 years old.’ But she still wakes up screaming and kicking from nightmares.”
