Viral Footage Of Crowd's Response To Mom Getting Beaten In Front Of 2-Year-Old Sparks Outrage (Video)

A New Jersey fast-food worker was caught on camera attacking a young mother in front of her 2-year-old son, who kicked the attacker and pleaded with her to stop.

The attack happened Tuesday in the city of Salem. Instead of intervening, an onlooker recorded the incident on a cell phone and posted it on Facebook.

Salem County police have identified the suspect as Latia Harris. The 25-year-old is facing charges of aggravated assault and two counts of making terroristic threats.

In the video, Harris appears to be wearing a McDonald’s uniform as she repeatedly punches the victim in the head. The victim’s son stands next to Harris, kicking her and screaming.

"Police in this county deal with this type of violence every day," Salem Chief of Police John J. Pelura III said Wednesday. "Yet this video is physically sickening to watch."

Pelura said officers responded to a call Tuesday "for a woman who was covered in blood and appeared to have been assaulted." He said the unidentified victim was "disoriented, confused and bleeding from the face."

The 27-year-old victim told police that she was assaulted by a woman named “Tia,” who worked at McDonald’s and "accused her of spreading rumors about her and her manager."

She was transported to the Memorial Hospital of Salem County, Mannington Township, for treatment.

Pelura said the fact that onlookers did nothing to help is disheartening.

"There is a moral and social breakdown in the fabric of our society which is clearly evident when a woman gets pummeled in broad daylight in front of her child while a dozen people pull out their phones to record the incident instead of calling for help," Pelura said. "There is so little regard for human life — by the actor and the bystanders."
