Morehouse College in Atlanta announced Saturday that it will begin accepting transgender men as students in fall 2020. Although College officials informed that the new policy would not include “individuals who identify as women regardless of the sex assigned to them at birth.” All the trustees of the institution approved of it.
Morehouse is the only historically black college to admit only men. Last year, the neighboring college Spelman has its first transgender woman graduate; they adopted their policy in 2017. The Morehouse policy was developed over 15 months.
The school’s enrollment vice president Terrance Dixon said, “In a rapidly changing world that includes a better understanding of gender identity, we’re proud to expand our admissions policy to consider trans men who want to be part of an institution that has produced some of the greatest leaders in social justice, politics, business, and the arts for more than 150 years,”
