‘Mary Tyler Moore Show’ Star Georgia Engel passed away “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” star Georgia Engel, who played the soft-spoken Georgette Baxter passed away on last Friday at the age of 70.
According to John Quilty’s statement to The New York Times, the cause of death is unknown, as Engel was a Christian Scientist who did not consult doctors. She was Emmy nominated two times for outstanding continuing performance by a supporting actress in a comedy series for her role as Georgette, girlfriend and later wife to Ted Baxter. In 1972, during its third season, she joined “Mary Tyler Moore.”
She was conceived in Washington, D.C., the girl child of Ruth Caroline and Benjamin Franklin Engel, who was a Coast Guard admiral. From Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Md she completed her graduation. Georgia earned her degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
