A Texas grand jury specified a suburban Dallas police officer Wednesday on a charge of criminally negligent homicide for malignantly shooting a man of color during a traffic stop last year.
The Tarrant County grand jury convicted Arlington Officer Bau Tran eight months after he killed 24-year-old O’Shae Terry in the Dallas suburb.
Tran shot Terry on September 1st after another officer pulled him over on a registration violation.
Body camera footage shows after talking for several minutes Tran
grabbing the passenger-side window of the SUV Terry was driving as it starts to
roll up. The officer stepped on to the car’s running board as it began to move,
pointed his firearm into the SUV and fired multiple rounds.
Terry was rushed to a hospital and passed away.
Terry’s estate attorney said the indictment was “a huge relief” for his family. He stated, “We are certainly happy that there will be a chance for some form of justice in this case.”
