The suspect who killed a Mississippi police officer and Air
Force veteran was finally apprehended on Monday.
The name of the suspect is Darian Tawan Atkinson, age 19. The allegations are he malignantly shot Officer Robert McKeithen outside the Biloxi Police Department on Sunday night.
Atkinson was charged with capital murder and taken into
custody in a city roughly 40 miles north of Biloxi called Wiggins.
McKeithen, the unfortunate officer served with the police
department for 24 years and 2019 was his retirement year.
He was shot multiple times outside police headquarters; he was rushed to a hospital nearby and took his last breath there. According to Biloxi Police Chief John Miller, the murdered officer was awarded the Medal of Valor. He saved 4 special needs kids from a flooded home during a 2005 Hurricane Katrina.
Miller continued, “He was very gentle, likable, he treated
people with respect and dignity and we are going to miss him sorely.”
McKeithen leaves behind a wife, two stepsons, a daughter,
and a stepdaughter.
