Mark Wahlberg looked absolutely unrecognizable on the set of “Father Stu” as he was dressed in a fat suit during filming in Los Angeles.

In the new photos, the 49-year-old star, who gained 20 pounds for the role of boxer-turned-priest Stuart Long, looked noticeably heavier, with a gut, prosthetics and makeup completing his transformation.

Wahlberg has been vocal about how he bulked up for the role, posting various updates about how he watched the scale go up. Wahlberg revealed that he had gained “about 20” pounds, and shared side by side photos of the changes to his body in just three weeks.

To gain weight quickly, Wahlberg started consuming about 7,000 calories daily, following a customized meal plan by his personal chef Lawrence Duran.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Father Stu” is Wahlberg’s passion project, and he has been working on it for six years. Mel Gibson is also in the film, with Rosalind Ross, Gibson’s longtime partner, writing the script. Ross will be making her directorial debut with the movie.

The film is a story about real-life Father Stuart Long from Helena, Montana. Father Long’s 2014 obituary stated that as a young adult, the priest “excelled” in boxing, winning the 1985 Golden Gloves heavyweight title for Montana.

However, Long’s professional boxing career was cut short in the late ’80s after he underwent jaw reconstructive surgery.

In his 20-year journey from boxer to priest, Long didn’t have easy life. In addition to several struggles, he also had a brutal near-death motorcycle accident, his obituary stated.
